Miles Davis’ Doo-Bop was completed after his death in 1991, with producer Easy Mo Bee finishing sessions they had begun earlier that year. Originally envisioned as a larger exploration of hip-hop and funk, the project paired Miles’ trumpet with contemporary beats, samples and, on some tracks, his own vocals.
Already making a name through work with Big Daddy Kane and GZA, Easy Mo Bee impressed Miles with his inventive production style. Together they created tracks including ‘The Doo-Bop Song’, ‘Blow’ and ‘Mystery’, blending jazz improvisation with hip-hop rhythms. Released in 1992, Doo-Bop stands as a unique final statement from an artist who never stopped pushing forward.
