Requiem for a Village Steven Wilson

From Hemel Hempstead to a village that doesn't even exist: Steven Wilson has brought his gaze back down to earth after the deep-space sprawl of The Overview.

Requiem for a Village is a 54-minute piece of rural unease, recorded with Randy McStine and drummer Russell Holzman.

Wilson has kept the small imperfections in their playing, which feels just about right for a place with David Tennant narrating Andy Partridge's words from somewhere beyond the hedgerow. T

he released title track suggests there's still room for a hefty prog detour on the way through.

We wouldn't trust the signposts.
